Midway High School’s standout football player Larry Blanks has signed his National Letter of Intent to play college football next season for St. Andrews. The decision came after Blanks toured the campus, and really liked the way everything was set up. He also liked the business program that St. Andrews offers.

Blanks signed his letter of intent on Wednesday afternoon in the Midway High School Media Center, with Midway head football coach Jason Fussell, Midway assistant principal Jeff Wilson, his mother, Lynn Blanks, grandfather, Donnie Douglas, and grandmother, Shelia Douglas in attendance.

Blanks was offered from UNCP, UNCG, Methodist and Shaw, but came to this conclusion after much thought about the opportunities.

“I am really excited for the college experience, especially the college football experience. I am incredibly thankful for my time at Midway, and the way Coach Fussell has prepared me for the next level,” said Blanks. “Coach Fussell works us hard, on the field, in the weight room, and he preaches team ball. I know that is very important and will transfer well into playing at the college level.”

Blanks rushed for over a thousand yards in his senior season. He led the Raiders to their first set of back to back winning seasons for the first since 2008.

“Larry is a great kid and a strong worker with a great family to support him,” said Midway’s head football coach, Jason Fussell. “Larry works hard in the weight room and the classroom, and St. Andrews is getting an incredible talent next season. It seems to be a good fit for them and for him, so it really is a good situation all the way around.”

It was a proud day for the Blanks family, as they all smiled during the entire signing ceremony. He will be missed in the Raider backfield, per Fussell, but will be a great asset to the St. Andrews football team.
