Don’t let Satan trick you

One of the most disturbing things about the Body of Christ is that most believers do not know who they are. What’s even more disturbing is that many who have been saved for decades and have attended church on a regular basis are still confused about who they are.

Many are still searching to find self. Many are relying on others to tell them who they are. Many do not feel good about themselves because they are constantly comparing themselves to somebody else. Many have allowed others to dictate to them who they are and who they are not. Sadly, many have even determined who they are by where they go to church or by who their pastor is. But the worst case are those who have fallen for the oldest trick in the book to determine who they are?

The oldest trick in the book is the one used by Satan to trick Jesus into determining who He was. This trick can be found in Luke 4:1-12. Jesus has just been anointed with the Holy Spirit. Upon receiving the Holy Spirit, God spoke from heaven and said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Afterwards the Holy Spirit led him into the wilderness for 40 days, by the which Jesus ate nothing. Satan knew exactly who Jesus was but He wanted to trick Jesus into thinking that He was who He was because of something else.

Satan told Jesus, “if you be the Son of God, command this stone to be turned into bread.” Satan was trying to get Jesus to believe He was who He was because of performance. In other words, Satan wanted Jesus and others to believe He was the Son of God because of what He was able to do or perform. Many believers have fallen for the trick of believing they are who they are because of what they have performed or accomplished. Even some pastors and teachers of God’s Word believe they are who they are because of what they have accomplished and performed in the world.

When that didn’t work on Jesus, Satan took Jesus up into a high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world. Satan then said to Jesus in essence, I will give all of this to you if you will worship me. What Satan was really trying to do was to trick Jesus into thinking people will know that I am the Son of God based on my possessions. Today many believers judged themselves and are judged by others based on their possessions. The church is guilty of determining who a person is based on their material possessions. Believers themselves have fooled themselves into thinking they are somebody for God because of their wealth and material possession, while at the same time failing to realize that Satan can bless individuals with wealth and possessions.

Finally, as a last attempt to trick Jesus into believing He was the Son of God just because God had said so, Satan set Jesus on top of a high pinnacle and told him to jump of the pinnacle. Satan said, “If you be the Son of God, God angels will catch you into their hands.” Satan was trying to get Jesus to show of and thus this act would make him very popular onst with people. Satan was trying to get Jesus to prove He was the Son of God through popularity. Many believers have deceived themselves into thinking they are who they are based on the number of people who like them or who follow them on their blog or tweeter or on how many friends they have on Facebook. Even churches and pastors have deceived themselves into thinking they are who they are based on the number of members they have.

The trick did not work on Jesus and as a follower of Him, do not let it work on you. Jesus knew who He was based solely on who God said He was at the Jordan River. You are who you are based on what God says you are in His Word.

First of all you are marvelously and wonderfully made. There is nobody on earth like you. You are the only original you and there are no copies of you. You are the beloved of God which is why He sent His Son to die for you. You will never be perfect in the eyes of people but you are always perfect and complete in the eyes of God. In fact you are so awesome that God has fixed it so that no weapon formed against you will prosper. You are so awesome in God’s eyes that He says He will fight all of your battles for you. You mean so much to God that as busy as He is; He promises never to leave you or to forsake you. The reason why God never sleeps or slumbers is because He doesn’t want to miss anything that’s going on in your life. You are the child of a King and He has a Kingdom prepared and waiting on you. You are a King, a Lord and a Priest of the Most High God. And the only person greater than you is the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords and the Great High Priest. And those three persons are Jesus Christ. This is who you are.
