County investigators are on the hunt for a suspect who allegedly slithered through a window of a Newton Grove home early Sunday morning and began fondling the homeowner while she was sleeping.
According to investigators with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, the 40-year-old woman was reportedly asleep in her home, located on Armer Road in Newton Grove, when she awoke around 1:20 a.m to discover an unknown man touching her.
Reports note that the woman immediately began screaming for her husband, who had fallen asleep in another part of the residence.
The suspect was able to run out the front door and escaped in a Burgundy Chevrolet Suburban before anyone could catch up withh im.
No injuries were reported.
The burglary and sexual assault remain under investigation and officers are asking for the public’s help in solving the crime.
“We are looking for anyone who has any type of information in this case,” said Capt. Eric Pope. “Someone may have seen something or was driving by and may have noticed the car.”
Pope said the man was identified as a Hispanic male, about 5 foot 3 inches in height and weighing approximately 150 pounds.
