The Lakewood JV Lady Leopards opened their season with a win against the Lady Dark Horses of Clinton. Final score 37-22.

Although it was the first game of the year — and for some the first time in an official game — Lakewood JV coach Megan Strickland said the girls got a rhythm going and managed to carry it throughout the game.

“It turned out pretty well all the way around,” Strickland said of the season-opener. “I thought the girls played a pretty good game.”

The game started out relatively even, with Lakewood leading 10-5 after the first period and 18-10 at the half. But the Leopard girls opened it up a little in the third quarter, moving to a 27-18 lead, a score they capitalized on during the fourth and final period.

“We hung on to our lead the entire time, which was good,” Strickland attested. “We have some improvements to make, but for our first time out, I thought we did OK.”

Scoring for the Leopards was Lexie Williams, with 18 points; Rashyda Parker, 9; Kiara Rich, 5; Daja Owens, 3; and Jasmine Williams, 2.

The JV girls’ next game is still unclear, Strickland said, but should be announced early next week.
