DUNN — In today’s world, the institution of marriage is being bombarded from many sides. Husbands and wives have been struggling for years with trying to survive the bonds of marriage, but there are so many issues today causing a successful marriage to be at risk. Central Baptist Church, located on U.S. 421 north in the Plain View community, has moved to help couples struggling to better equip themselves for a successful union. On Saturday, March 17, the church will hold a “Love Worth Fighting For” marriage event. In fact, the event has had such good response, the organizers have added a second program. Now there will be a 12:30 p.m. event and a 6 p.m. repeat performance.
The Rev. Darren Hughes, administrative pastor at Central Baptist, expressed his excitement over the response the event has caused.
“First of all, I am really pleased that we were able to get such a huge event as this. This same program will be in Richmond, Va. on Friday and in Charlotte on Sunday. This marriage event is so needed, not only for those outside the church struggling with marriage but those of us within the church that need help surviving marriage. There is just so much to disrupt our marriages in today’s world,” asserted Hughes.
On the website for Love Worth Fighting For, it shares what the Bible has to say about marriage. The Bible repeatedly uses “father,” “husband,” “bride” and “child” analogies to demonstrate God’s relationship with the church and his followers. There is no better example of the unconditional love God has for us than what we are instructed to have for our spouse and children. Building upon these themes, Love Worth Fighting For is a marriage event, featuring teaching by Kirk Cameron and music by Sampson County’s own Warren Barfield, designed to strengthen and encourage marriage.
The Love Worth Fighting For event is an event designed to help individuals “fireproof” their marriage. Some people need to just take the time to sit with their spouse, hold their hand and laugh together. Others need to hear how they can fight to keep their marriage together. Everyone needs to hear about God’s plan for marriage and the saving grace offered to them and to their marriages through their savior Jesus Christ, the pastor noted.
The program event features Cameron and Barfield. Following the success of his 1980s hit television show, “Growing Pains,” Cameron married actress Chelsea Noble and started a family. Today the father of six is an outspoken believer and has starred in the “Left Behind” movie series as well as the widely acclaimed movie “Fireproof” that was released in theaters nationwide this past year.
The Spivey’s Corner native, singer/songwriter Barfield is on a mission to make the truly important things important again in his life. Things like faith, love, marriage, children, truth, and with his songs, he challenges everyone to do the same. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “If a man hasn’t discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.” Warren has found those things in his faith, his wife, and his belief in love. “These are the things I would die for; things I will wake up every morning and spend my day fighting for,” shared Barfield.
Tickets to the event are available at the website: www.feedyourfaith.org. You will need to click on Dunn. Tickets are $22.50 per person and groups of 10 or more can receive a reduced rate of $22.
“Tickets for the 6 p.m. program are basically sold out. We encourage anyone interested in participating to get their tickets as soon as possible. We are very happy but fortunate to be able to schedule the additional 12:30 p.m. program. If there are any seats available a person can purchase a ticket at the door for $25 but we do not encourage that because we are limited on the number we can allow to attend for safety reasons,” expressed Hughes.
The Love Worth Fighting For event is based on the Biblical principle that God, the designer of the universe, is also the designer of marriage. Also, because laughter has been shown through research is 300 times more prevalent in children than adults, Cameron and Barfield will transform back in time and present a program that will make attendees laugh while learning how to apply principles to their marriage and relationship, no matter how strong those relationship may already be.
The flyer for the marriage event concludes with this statement: By the end of the night, you’ll laugh and you’ll cry…you will be comforted and empowered…and you will know that your Love is Worth Fighting For!
