Weiss earns Eagle Scout
Ross Edward Weiss, son of Thomas and Angela Weiss, grandson of Joan and Bill Bacon of Clinton and member of Boy Scout Troop 223 in Southern Pines, received the rank of Eagle Scout in December 2011. Troop 223 is sponsored by Brownson Presbyterian Church where Ross' mother is an elder. The award was presented to him at a Court of honor on Jan. 29, 2012, which also happened to be Ross' 15th birthday. For his Eagle Scout project, he designed a sculpture of the school mascot at Southern Middle School in Southern Pines and constructed a reflection area which consists of a walkway, seating area, and podium for the sculpture entitled 'The Dragon.' The Eagle Scout Service Project is the opportunity for a Scout to demonstrate leadership of others while performing a project to benefit any religious institution, school, or his community. Ross is currently a student at Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines and is a member of the track and lacrosse teams. After graduating from college he aspires to become and Environmental Engineer and serve his country in the United States Armed Forces. (Courtesy photo)
