Molly Elizabeth McMurtrey and Barrett Whitehurst Spearman exchanged vows during a 6 p.m. ceremony on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011. The Rev. C. Renee Edwards officiated the double ring ceremony in The Dixon Chapel, named in memory of the brides stepfather, located in the N.C. Conference of the United Methodist Church Headquarters, in Garner.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Cynthia Leapley Dixon and the late Rev. Dr. Samuel Williams Dixon, Jr. of Roanoke Rapids, and Mr. and Mrs. James Arthur McMurtrey of Surf City. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Audrey Dickerson Leapley and the late Mr. Richard Howard Leapley of Elm City, and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Clinton Morton, and the late Mr. Jack Addison McMurtrey, all of Jacksonville.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Franklin Spearman Jr. of Clinton. He is the grandson of Mrs. Willa Rogers Lane and the late Mr. Madison Whitehurst Lane of Rose Hill, and Mr. and Mrs. James Franklin Spearman Sr. of Rose Hill.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. She wore a soft white strapless taffeta gown with asymmetrically draped bodice, scooped neckline, and ball gown tulle skirt with a modern cathedral length train, by Vera Wang. The dress was accented with an ebony grosgrain ribbon sash. She wore a two-tier walking length veil with a raw edge style in soft white, and carried Casa Blanca lilies wrapped in a monogrammed handkerchief, a gift of the grooms mother.
Miss Allyson Elizabeth Barnes of Raleigh, was the Maid of Honor. Miss Amy Renee Dixon of Swansboro, Mrs. Jessica Whitley Eason of Roanoke Rapids, Miss Shaunna Marie Egan of Clayton, Ms. Heather Spearman Hawkins of Clinton, Mrs. Christine Warren Keel of Robersonville, and Mrs. Ashleigh Vernelson May of Greenville, were bridesmaids. Miss Brinkley Dey Spearman, niece of the groom, was the flower girl.
The grooms father, Mr. James Franklin Spearman Jr., served as his best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Christopher Alan Hall of Clinton, Mr. George Nicholas Lane of Raleigh, Mr. Joshua Richard McMurtrey of Greenville, Mr. Henry Luther McRee of Scottsdale, Ariz., Mr. Michael Andrew Snow of Winston-Salem, Mr. James Christopher Spearman of Rose Hill, and Mr. Jeremy Matthew Taylor of Charlotte.
The Irish Marriage Blessing was read by the brides uncle, Mr. Michael Howard Leapley of North Wilkesboro. Program attendants were Miss Sydney Elizabeth Leapley and Miss Olivia Ann Leapley, both of North Wilkesboro. Mrs. Val Conger of Grimesland, was the wedding coordinator.
A reception followed at The Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh. The couple left the reception in a horse drawn carriage.
Both the bride and groom are graduates of East Carolina University.
Miss Allyson Elizabeth Barnes, Miss Shaunna Marie Egan, Miss Leah Claire Hines and Mrs . Christine Warren Keel hosted a shower in Miss Egans home in Clayton on Aug. 7, 2011.
On Sept. 24, 2011, Molly was honored with a shower given by Mrs. Kay Lane Spearman, mother of the groom, Ms. Heather Spearman Hawkins, sister of the groom, and Mrs. Michelle Lane Stanley, the grooms aunt. The location was Timberlake Club House, Clinton.
Aunts of the bride, Mrs. Shelley Leapley Barnes, and Mrs. Larisa Johnson Leapley, hosted a shower in Wilson, on Oct. 8, 2011.
A bridesmaids weekend was hosted by Mrs. Yvonne Horner Hoffman on Oct. 29-30, 2011 in Atlantic Beach. She gave the bride and her attendants a cooking class and dinner. A shower followed given by the attendants.
On the eve of the wedding, the grooms parents hosted an after rehearsal dinner at Caffe Luna in downtown Raleigh.
Following a honeymoon on Maui, Hawaii, the couple resides in Clinton.
