WALLACE — The Clinton High School boys basketball team returned to the hard court on Saturday following a heartbreaking loss on Friday to South Lenoir in a buzzer winning three-pointer by the Blue Devils. The Dark Horses defeated the Wallace-Rose Hill Bulldogs 62-53 on Saturday in Wallace.

“It was a pretty good game, that was very physical,” stated Clinton head varsity boys basketball coach Brad Spell. “Wallace dominated the boards and had a three point lead at the half.” Spell added that the Bulldogs led as much 7 points midway through the third quarter. “We settled down and started running our offense and got back into the game. We still have a long way to go on defense because we are still not rotating like we should.”

Scoring: 1 2 3 4

CHS: 12 14 18 18

WRH: 15 14 11 13

Leaders for Clinton: C. J. Melvin, 14 points; Dominic Quarterman, 5 points; Terry Farrior, 8 points; Tray Raynor, 16 points; Norri Ellis, 1 point; Vic Register, 18 points.

Leaders for Wallace: Love, 3 points; Herring, 9 points; Devone, 13 points; Burrs, 7 points; Lewis, 2 points; Hall, 6 points; McKinzie, 4 points; Lamb, 3 points; Parker, 4 points.

The Dark Horses will host Jacksonville Northside tonight. “We were able to narrowly pull out the win against Northside when we visited them,” added Spell. “We still have a chance to get back in the conference race but we will have to be ready to play against Northside.”

Clinton’s boys are now 10-4 overall and 5-2 in East Central Conference play.
