The Lady Raiders took the girls game with the final score of 35-23. Midway controlled the first half but the Lady Spartans got fired up at the break and came back the second half to make it a game.
“Midway played really well on defense in the first half holding us to only three points,” stated Union Middle girls basketball coach Robert Hill. “Nadua McKenzie got hot and began to have her shots start falling in the second half and scored 20 points to help us close the lead. Midway girls are well coached and played hard. I was very proud of my girls’ efforts today as they too played very hard. We continue to work hard and to improve.”
“Today’s game was the first time this season we came out in the first quarter ready to play basketball,” expressed Selena Josephs Midway girls basketball coach. “We had a tough game earlier this week and it was good to see our girls come out at the start of the game ready to play. We played hard and executed our plays well and hustled as well as Union today.”

The Spartan boys came out as victors in the boys match-up winning 40-30 at Midway Middle on Thursday.
Midway boys basketball coach, Mike Buchanan stated, “The first half of the game was a good battle for both teams. We got a short lead and then Union came back but only led by two at the half. Union is big and tall and rebounded very well. We kept battling on the defensive boards to help us stay in the game. We did not play well in the second half. Our shots just would not fall along with poor free throw shooting and turnovers helped Union’s cause. Coach Bass and his team did a good job doing the things they needed to do to win.”
