Now, more than ever, is the perfect opportunity for local business and industry to take advantage of the customized training program offered through the Continuing Education Division at Sampson Community College. Southeastern Outdoor Products of Clinton is the latest business to collaborate with the college in this initiative.

Southeastern Outdoor Products, which has been in operation since 1998, specializes in the manufacturing and customization of metal roofing, shelters and garages. Free Brewington, company supervisor, recently completed the five-hour General Industry Forklift Instructor Development Training. Katie Brown, director of customized training at SCC, says this crucial training and upgrading of skills will allow the company to maintain the competitive edge. “It has been a pleasure to partner with Southeastern Outdoor Products, and it is our mission to enhance the growth of their operations and provide them with vital resources for continued success.”

Brewington completed a myriad of forklift safety and training exercises through the customized training curriculum, including how to complete safety inspections, the proper way to stack and load trailers and even administered simulated training to mirror the operations of a real-life work setting. Brewington says he feels confident with his newfound knowledge to instruct fellow employees in the proper operation of a forklift in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and regulations.

Eddie Hatcher, general manager of Southeastern Outdoor Products, says he is equally pleased with the customized training results. “Our employees are eager to be trained in the proper operation of forklift safety, and we are confident the skills they acquire will help to maintain safety and efficiency of this operation.”

The program at SCC is committed to growing local business and industry by providing qualified instructors, training facilities and instructional materials and supplies as well, college officials noted. It is truly a one stop shop for all training needs. For more information about the program at SCC, contact Brown, 592-7176.

Now if SCC will get a School of Barbering program, I won't have to drive to James Sprunt every day!
