A routine traffic stop on I-40 Tuesday afternoon uncovered close to $40,000, wrapped in seven bundles. The cash was confiscated but no arrests have been made.

According to reports from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, the Criminal Interdiction Team was working in the Suttontown and Faison communities Tuesday around 12:30 p.m. when they conducted a routine traffic stop on a black Chevrolet Tahoe for a lane violation on I-4,0 near mile marker 353, in the east bound lane.

During the traffic stop, deputies become suspicious of criminal activity and had a K-9 officer conduct a search of the outside of the suspect vehicle. The K-9 reportedly alerted to several locations.

A search of each of the locations inside the vehicle yielded several bundles of U.S. currency. In all, seven large bundles of cash was seized, totaling $39,000.

Due to the Federal Asset Forfeiture Law, the money was immediately seized and the driver was cited for the lane violation and released.

This cash will not mysteriously disappear. This money was drug money, and was proven so BEFORE it was even seized. The money is turned over to the Fed's (D.E.A.) who seizes it from us for a nominal fee. The MAJORITY of it goes back to the Sampson County Sheriff's Office so that it can be used for equipment for officers such as uniforms, flashlights, cars, and other needed equipment that your friends Jarvis McLamb and Albert Kirby won't allow us to get because their heads are filled with "I'm an elected official, do what I say" mindsets. The money seized from drug dealers plays two important roles: 1. it saves tax payers (such as yourself) money by preventing you guys from having to pay the dividends to fund our "wish list" (since we NEVER need any type of equipment to carry out our day to day tasks). 2 It prevents the drug dealers from being able to fund their underground business......at least for a little while. In essence, the drug dealers actually fund us in our fight against them.

Now that you have been enlightened on the ways that our nations law enforcement agencies (not just Sampson County Sheriff's Office) conduct our business against the drug underworld, please shut your sarcastic mouth about matters that really don't have any adverse affect on your life as a citizen of Sampson County. As a matter of fact, this instance actually HELPS you and your precious pocketbook.

Your negativity does not affect us or our motivation to do our jobs to the best of our ability. In fact, it makes us want to work that much harder. My only wish is that you weren't too big of a coward to hide behind a screen name.........all bark, no bite.
