And the 75th Miss North Carolina 2012 is…That question cannot be answered until Saturday evening at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium where Mary Catherine Tucker, Miss Spivey’s Corner, and 36 other young women are vying for the title of Miss North Carolina.

Tucker is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, with a B.A. in communications studies and minor in leadership studies. Since being crowned in February, she has been busy promoting her platform, “Step Up for Soldiers,” an organization that helps our disabled veterans, remembers the fallen, and supports our troops.

This week, Tucker has been competing in preliminary competitions. Monday night, she was stunning in her red evening gown and poised when answering her on-stage question. Tuesday night, she rocked her kelly green two piece swimsuit. Wednesday night, she entertained the audience with a sensational vocal rendition of “Feeling Good.” The competition continued on Thursday in her private interview.

Tucker has had a wonderful time representing Spivey’s Corner at the Miss North Carolina Pageant this year and looks forward to what the future holds for her.

Ava Taylor Mumford, a Garner native, is the reigning Spivey’s Corner Outstanding Teen. This week she has been competing for the title of North Carolina’s Outstanding Teen. Her competition began on Sunday with private interview. Monday, she graced the stage in her blush pink evening gown and wowed the judges during on-stage question. She worked the stage in her fitness outfit on Tuesday night, and played a beautiful and whimsical piano selection, “The Love Theme” from St. Elmo’s Fire, on Wednesday. Ms. Mumford commented that this week has been “hectic and crazy, but well worth it.” She is also an advocate for her platform, “Jenna’s Warriors – Fighting Against Neuroblastoma”

Thursday night was the final night of competition for the Outstanding Teens. The top ten contestants were selected and competed in all phases of competition again. Ms. Tucker and Ms. Mumford are both enjoying a night off tonight as they celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Miss North Carolina Scholarship Pageant at the Sisterhood of North Carolina Gala being held at the Raleigh Convention Center. Tonight, the new Miss North Carolina exhibit will be opened to the public and will be on display at the NC Museum of History for the next six months. Over forty former Miss North Carolina queens will be returning for the unveiling of the new exhibit. Please tune in at 8 p.m. on Time Warner Cable for the Live 75th Annual Miss North Carolina Scholarship to see who the next Miss North Carolina will be.
