UNION — When the Hobbton Wildcats visit Union this Friday night there will be more at stake than the final scores of the games. Friday’s game will the annual Pink Zone Game, formerly know as the Think Pink Game. This is the second year that the Lady Spartans have hosted this event. The purpose and goal of the Pink Zone Game is to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research and all proceeds will benefit the Kay Yow/WBCA Caner Fund. This is especially near to the Union team due to the recent loss of N.C. State women’s basketball head coach Kay Yow and the loss of a fellow Spartan, Simone Frederick, from cancer over the summer.

The Lady Spartans will be selling raffle tickets for a $100 cash prize sponsored by Clinton Drug, raffle tickets for a Vera Bradley pocketbook, they will be selling half-and-half tickets during the game and they will also hold a silent auction for a UNC Basketball, signed by the Lady Tarheels. There will be Pink Zone t-shirts on sale. The Union students are also helping in this cause with each student paying $2 to attend a student-faculty basketball game being held at 2 p.m. on Friday. The team are hoping to raise $5000. If fans or anyone wishing to donate to this cause and cannot attend the game, checks/donations can be mailed to Union High School (1189 Kader Merritt Road, Rose Hill NC, 28458), and anyone who would like to make a bid on the basketball, can call Julie Hunter or Brad Bass at 532-6300. The team is asking those who attend the game to wear pink if possible. The Lady Spartans also wanted to thank the Hobbton Wildcats in their efforts by joining with them over the last two years. The Wildcats have also been great supporters of this worthy cause.
