Register of Deeds Eleanor Norris Bradshaw was issued a citation for failure to heed light and siren by a N.C. Highway Patrol trooper as she traveled south on U.S. 701 on Nov. 25.
District Attorney Dewey Hudson noted in a press release that he met Tuesday with the trooper’s supervisors, First Sgt. D.L. Hewitt and Sgt. G.A. Belflowers, as well as Bradshaw’s attorney, Doug Parsons, about the matter.
Hudson stated that Bradshaw was traveling in a 2008 Honda when a state trooper came up from behind her, his cruiser’s blue lights activated in pursuit of another vehicle for speeding. At the intersection of U.S. 701 and Carr Church Road, Bradshaw stopped her car in the roadway before turning left onto Carr Church Road, according to the press release.
N.C. General Statute requires a driver to immediately pull their vehicle to the right shoulder and stop upon the approach of law enforcement, fire department, ambulance or rescue vehicle with both light and siren activated, Hudson explained in the release.
“All the evidence, including the trooper’s video tape, shows that the trooper did not have his siren activated at the time of this incident,” Hudson said in the prepared statement. “Both siren and light must be activated in order for a motorist to be in violation of this statute. Therefore, I have dismissed the traffic charges against Eleanor Norris Bradshaw.”
