A 47-year-old Lumber Bridge man, who had been previously banned from all Walmart stores, returned to the one in Clinton over the weekend and allegedly attempted to steal over $200 in beer and food.
Bobby Lee Tuggle, 47, of 606 Shook Drive, Lumber Bridge, was charged with larceny; second degree trespassing; and resisting a public officer Sunday afternoon.
According to reports, Tuggle, who had just been released from the Cumberland County Jail on trespassing and larceny charges, showed up at the Walmart Supercenter, at 1415 Sunset Ave. in Clinton, got into a motorized shopping cart, began shopping and then left the store without paying for the items.
Items taken were ribeye steaks, ground beef and beer. In all, the total came to $296.49.
When initially interviewed by police, Tuggle gave authorities a false name and address. However, investigators were suspicious when his girlfriend came to the store and called him by his real name.
Tuggle apologized to police and explained that he gave them a false name because he didn’t want to go to jail.
He was immediately arrested and charged with the misdemeanors.
Tuggle was given a $4,000 bond and a trial date of Aug. 13.
