Students from Quisan’s Dance Academy (QDA) recently had the opportunity to train in New York with some of the world’s top dance instructors and choreographers. During their trip, they participated in a private musical theater class with Brian Wanee and Erica Kaplan from the cast of the highly acclaimed Broadway show “Wicked”. In this class they were taught music and dance choreography from the actual show prior to having the chance to go see it on Broadway.
They also received over five hours of dance instruction in classical ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, Horton modern technique, and street jazz at Steps on Broadway, one of the most prestigious training facilities in New York City. According to many of the students, the highlight of their trip was taking a private Horton modern class at the world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. This class was taught by Alvin Ailey company member, Iquail Johnson, with Victor on live drum accompaniment.
Students also enjoyed visiting some of New York’s greatest attractions including Rockefeller Center, CBS television network, Times Square, and the World Trade Center memorial. QDA owner and artistic director, Quisan Parker was thrilled to offer this opportunity to her students and is grateful to the many people and local businesses whose financial contributions made this trip a reality for these children.
