Karen Williams Taylor of Chapel Hill and William Thomas Herring III of Newton Grove were united in marriage on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at five o’clock at Emma Anderson Chapel at Topsail Beach. The Rev. Scott Morgan Foster officiated the double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Fred Taylor of Raleigh. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jonathan DeVane and the late Mr. Lloyd Hampton Williams, all of Warsaw, and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Frederick Taylor of Magnolia.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Thomas Herring II of Newton Grove. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Andrew Cloninger of Dallas, N. C., and Mr. and Mrs. William Thomas Herring of Newton Grove.

The bride was escorted to the altar by her father and given in marriage by her parents. She wore an ivory, French Alençon lace gown by Palmona Blanca. It featured a v-neckline and empire waist which was accented with a satin ribbon. Bridal buttons graced the back of the gown sweeping into a chapel-length train. The bride’s veil was etched with two rows of coordinating French Alençon lace complementing the gown.

Maids of honor were Miss Edith Allison Guess and Miss Joanna Blaine Saleeby of Raleigh, best friends of the bride. Bridesmaids were Miss Dara Elizabeth McLean of Chapel Hill, roommate of the bride, Miss Julie Loren Saleeby of Philadelphia, Pa., friend of the bride, Ms. Maria Herring Holler of Smithfield, Mrs. Elizabeth Herring Rogers and Mrs. CharlesAnna Herring Williams of Clinton, sisters of the groom. The bridesmaids wore knee-length Lily Pulitzer coral and gold dresses.

The groom had as his best man his father Mr. William Thomas Herring II. Groomsmen were Richard Joseph Casey II of Newton Grove, Lee Travis Cloninger of Dallas, William Andrew Philemon Herring of Benson, cousins of the groom, Richard Marion Rogers and Jonathan Paul Williams of Clinton, brothers-in-law of the groom, William David Taylor of New York City, N. Y., brother of the bride, and Steven Reid Williams of Newton Grove, friend of the groom. Ushers were Randall Blake Davis of McComb, Miss., and Kevin Williams Langdon of Pittsboro, college friends of the groom, Jonathan Honeycutt Lane of Clinton, friend of the groom, and Elliott Ross Thornton of Newton Grove, childhood friend of the groom. Child attendant was Master Davis Marion Rogers of Clinton, nephew of the groom.

Scripture reader was Miss Joanna Blaine Saleeby. Musicians were organist Mr. Stan Iredell Benton of Clinton, pianist, Mrs. Merle Mallard Morris of Topsail Beach, vocalist, Julie Loren Saleeby and vocalist and guitarist, Jonathan Paul Williams.

Wedding director was Mrs. Donna Gribble Cloninger of Dallas, aunt of the groom. Wedding coordinators were Mrs. Diane Britton Barnes and Mrs. Jane Harmon Hauser of Topsail Beach. Wedding guest register attendants were Kristen Marisa Bettis of Burlington and Kimberly Ann Hutter of Durham, co-workers of the bride. Program attendants were Miss Camden Drew Ann Warlick of Wilmington, friend of the bride, and Miss Tiffany Patrice Zavatson of Raleigh, college friend of the bride.

The bride is a graduate of St. David’s School in Raleigh and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is employed as a Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Nurse with UNC Hospitals.

The groom is a graduate of Hobbton High School and North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business Management with a minor in Economics. He is employed with Hog Slat, Inc.

Following the ceremony, a tented reception hosted by the bride’s parents was held at Queen’s Grant. As guests arrived, cocktail music was provided by the Sea Pans, and the Right On Band entertained the guests at the reception. Guests were greeted by Miss Dana Elizabeth Herring of Wilmington, Miss Carli Suzanne Herring of Clinton, and Gary Mac Herring of Newton Grove, cousins of the groom.

Following a honeymoon, the couple will reside in Raleigh.

Rehearsal Dinner

The groom’s parents were hosts to a rehearsal dinner at the Beach Shop and Grill on the eve of the wedding. After the dinner, they hosted a Before the Big Day Celebration at the Topsail Assembly Building with music provided by the Central Park Band. Hostesses were Lou Anna Moore, Brenda Raynor, Brenda Warren and Delores Williams.

Pre-Nuptial Events

The bridesmaids’ luncheon was held Thursday before the wedding at Wrightsville Beach at Blue Water Grill hosted by Martha Hardee. The bride, bridesmaids and guests traveled by boat from Topsail Beach to Wrightsville. The morning of the wedding, Tony Cloninger, uncle of the groom, hosted a breakfast for the groom and groomsmen and Dr. Richard Saleeby hosted a brunch for the bride and her bridesmaids. Trudi D’Ambrosio and Sandy Williams provided refreshments for the wedding party at the church. A floating breakfast was held at the Breezeway Restaurant the morning after the wedding. It was hosted by Bill, Cathy, David, and Lucy Cherry, Magdalene and Billy Herring, grandparents of the groom, Betty Coleman, great-aunt of the groom, and Bryant and Lisa Mende, aunt and uncle of the groom.

In November, 2011 after Will proposed to Karen, the groom’s family hosted an engagement celebration at their home at Topsail Beach. In March, the bride and groom’s parents hosted an engagement party at the Herring Cabin in Newton Grove.

A bridal luncheon shower was held in May at the home of Dr. Jackie Saleeby. Hostesses were Dr. Saleeby, Joanna Saleeby, Allison and Edie Guess. A Mimosas in May Shower was held at the home of Elizabeth Rogers in Clinton. The shower was hosted by Mrs. Rogers, Brenda Raynor, Marilyn St. Pierre, Brenda Warren, Delores Williams, Cindi Westbrook, Alice Watkins, Maria Holler and CharlesAnna Williams. In June a cook-out was held at the Edward Dail Cabin in Kenansville. Hosts were the Edward Dail Family and the Paul Phillips family. Also in June a fun in the Sun Sandbar / Stock the Bar Party was held at Topsail Beach at the home of Mark and Sylvia Herring, aunt and uncle of the groom. Hosts for the party were the Herrings, Steve and Betty Smith, David and Lisa Herring, aunts and uncles of the groom, and Renee Rhodes and Clark Sneed. A barbecue was held on Thursday night before the wedding at the home of Mary Eberhardt. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Eberhardt, Ginny Barnett, Diane Barnes, Susan Burnette, Debbie Carr, Pam Griffin, Janie Hauser, Norfleet Herring, Frances Penick, Julia Sherron, Michelle Reynolds and Connie Williamson.

In June a bachelorette weekend was held in Palm Beach at the Breakers Resort. The groom, groomsmen and friends traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana, for a bachelor weekend.
