CLINTON — Mr. Larry Elbert Strickland, 71, of 1288 Rabbit St., died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

The funeral will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. W.H. Calcutt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Strickland, born and raised in Sampson County, was the son of the late Robert Elbert Strickland. He was formerly employed by Winn Dixie Food Stores, Lundy Packing Company and Hamilton Beach. He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church which he dearly loved and served so faithfully. He lived and walked his faith daily. His service and dedication will live on in the precious memories of all who knew and loved him. He served as chairman of the deacon board, Sunday school superintendent for 27 years, Sunday school teacher for many years, chairman of the building fund, a member of the church choir, general church secretary, associational representative of the Eastern Baptist Association and served in many other capacities.

Survivors are his mother, Louise Elizabeth Dudley Strickland of the home; three sisters, Judy Strickland David and husband, James of Clinton, Dian Strickland Naylor and husband, Reuben of Roseboro, Johnsie Strickland Phillips and husband, Billy Wayne of Clinton brother; Gerald Strickland and wife, Pam of Clinton; eight nieces and nephews; and nine great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home and other times at the home on 1288 Rabbit St.
