The Board of Directors of the Sampson Community College Foundation convened for its annual meeting Aug. 2 at the Ashford Inn. In addition to the general business of the board, the Foundation bid farewell to long time directors Bill Johnson, Doris Gore, Betty Jo Faircloth, Norma Moore and Robbie Caison.

“These departing board members will be sorely missed, but we know they will continue to be supportive of the Foundation,” said Foundation executive director Lisa Turlington. ” In fact, the Sampson Classic Golf Tournament is named in honor of my dear friend and retiring director, Bill Johnson.”

Steve Stefanovich, chairman of the Nominations Committee, welcomed new directors Brooks Barwick, Hugh Caison, Grover Ezzell, John Sargent and Sharon Roberts. Outgoing president John Prestage was thanked for his two years of dedicated service in that position.

The officers for the next two years are Chuck Spell, president; Lyman Horne, vice president; Prestage, past president; Merrie McLamb, secretary; Todd Johnson, treasurer. Committee chairs are Pat Green, appropriations; Horne and Stefanovich, annual giving; Amelia Surratt, EXCEL.

The Foundation board is directed by Alison Bradshaw, Mary Brown, Dee Bryant, Frank Butler, Brooks Barwick, Hugh Caison, John Clark, Holden DuBose, Grover Ezell, Henry Faircloth, Annabelle Fetterman, Bill Fulton, Sharon Roberts, Pat Green, Gary Mac Herring, Lyman Horne, Grace Hubbard, Todd Johnson, Sherry Matthews, Merrie McLamb, Lorriane Moore, Kyle Narron, John Prestage, John Sargent, Dickie Smith, Chuck Spell, Lew Starling, Steve Stefanovich, Neal Strickland, Amelia Surratt, and Dr. Paul Viser. Carole Robinson serves on the Foundation board as SCC trustee liasion and Dr. Paul Hutchins as SCC president.

The SCC Foundation exists to foster and promote Sampson Community College by awarding scholarships and grants, hosting cultural events, and supporting programs such as the Student Ambassadors, the Miss SCC Pageant, and the Alumni Association.

“Foundation donors truly make a difference in the lives of the SCC students and staff,” Turlington stressed.
