A couple driving down Old Warsaw Road, just east of Clinton, late Thursday night claim they were shot at by an unknown gunman.

The driver, a 20-year-old man from Turkey, and a 22-year-old female passenger, were on Old Warsaw Road, near Curtis Ivey Road, around 11 p.m. when they heard gunshots ring out.

The man told police he was hit in the left shoulder and the female passenger said she was hit in the upper lip. However, it was not clear if the two were hit by gunfire, debris or some other item since they refused treatment by Sampson County EMS officials.

Investigators with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office are still investigating the incident. No suspect descriptions were available in the case.

“We are searching for any information on this case,” said Cpl. Marcus Smith. “We are hoping to get more information from the public.”
