Man charged after drugs found during stop

A routine traffic stop put a 29-year-old Roseboro man behind bars after he allegedly attempted to destroy the drugs he was reportedly caught carrying during the stop.

Tourean Lamont Forte, 29, of North Pine St., Roseboro, was charged with possession of marijuana; altering/destroying criminal evidence; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to reports from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, Forte’s vehicle was pulled over Wednesday evening around 8:20 p.m. for a minor traffic violation just outside of Roseboro on N.C. Hwy. 24.

Officials at the Sheriff’s Office said during the stop, Forte allegedly tried to get rid of marijuana he had in the car. Reports note that he allegedly attempted swallow some and toss it out the window.

In all, .5 grams of marijuana was seized during the stop and Forte was immediately taken into custody.

He was taken to the Sampson County Detention Center, charged and given a $7,500 secured bond. Forte has a trial date of Sept. 14.

He later made bail and was released.
