A 61-year-old Sampson County man has been jailed under a $700,000 secured bond facing a dozen felonies involving sex crimes with minors after a month-long investigation led to his arrest.
Daniel Adam Wilson, 61, of Reedsford Road, was taken into custody Friday, Aug. 17, around 7 p.m., after warrants were issued for his arrest by Sampson County sheriff’s investigators.
Information on the arrest was not released until Monday.
“We first received the complaint against Mr. Wilson on July 17,” said Det. Jeremy Honeycutt Monday morning. “There were allegations of molestation of minors.”
Honeycutt noted that the investigation began that afternoon.
Just a month later, enough evidence was gathered to issue the arrest warrants against Wilson Friday evening. He was arrested without incident, officers said.
Wilson was charged with two counts of first degree statutory rape; three counts of crimes against nature; three counts of statutory sex offense against a minor; and four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.
Honeycutt refused to comment on any of the particulars of the case, noting he was being tight-lipped “for the protection of the victims.” The detective would not comment on the age of the children or how they knew Wilson.
He did say, however, that the children involved in the case are at a safe location.
The case, he noted, was still open. “It has not been closed,” the detective said, “this is still an active case.”
However, Honeycutt did stress that as of Monday no new charges are expected to be added and there likely would be no other arrests in the case.
Wilson first trial date has been set for Aug. 31.
According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, he has no previous convictions.
