A month after the armed robbery of a Newton Grove bank, investigators are now seeking the identity of man they are calling a person of interest in the case.
At the same time, a reward is now being offered for information that will lead to the arrest of those responsible for the hold-up.
On Thursday morning July 19, two suspects, both described as black males, went into the BB&T brandishing weapons and demanding money. After the robbery, the pair, one about 5 foot 6 inches in height, the other around 5 foot 9 inches, took off on foot towards the Dollar General Store, just north of the bank.
While the investigation continues and the two men remain at large, law enforcement officers are turning their attention to another man seen in the bank a few days before the robbery, and they are asking for the public’s assistance in attempting to identify that man.
“He was acting suspicious,” noted Capt. Eric Pope in an interview Tuesday morning. “We are just asking for the public to help us in identifying him.”
In addition, Pope said The N.C. Bankers Association has issued a reward up to $5,000 for the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for the bank robbery.
