Students at Quisan’s Dance Academy (QDA) , owned by Quisan Parker, recently had the opportunity to train with several top instructors and choreographers at the studio in Clinton.
Students completed 40 hours of challenging instruction that included classical ballet, rhythm tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, modern, stretch and conditioning, leaps and turns, acrobatics, audition technique, and musical theatre. They had instruction from Quisan Parker, Alecia Lakernick, owner/artistic director of Ballet Arts in Henderson, NC, who has trained at the N.C. School of the Arts and Meredith College, and Jodie Saunders who also trained at Meredith College and the N.C. Dance Institute.
Marcus White also lent his expertise during the intensive. Marcus is a native of Clinton, NC where he started his dance training under the artistic direction of Quisan Parker and has gone on to graduate with a BFA in Dance Choreography from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and has performed with the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble, American Dance Festival, Michigan Ballet Theatre, and the N.C. Black Repertory Theatre, just to name a few. He has also taught dance with the Detroit Opera House, University of Michigan, Dance Theater of Harlem in New York, and will be a part of the faculty this year at QDA.
Guest artist Jack Mattachione who hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was a champion gymnast at one of the top men’s gymnastics programs in the U.S. in Colombus, Ohio, and was a ballet scholarship graduate of the prestigious Point Park University with a double major in ballet and jazz. He has been seen in productions of “Aida” (Opera de Montreal), “Guys and Dolls” (Arizona Broadway Theatre), and “Cats”. His choreography was most recently seen on Season 2 of the hit Lifetime television show, “Dance Moms”.
