A 29-year-old Wilmington man is behind bars today, suspected in a Newton Grove burglary that took place on July 4.
Courtney Aaron Teachey, 29, of 201 Wrightsville Ave., Wilmington, was charged with first degree burglary and common law burglary early Thursday morning after he was seen parked in a car near the circle in Newton Grove.
According to reports from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy noticed Teachey sitting in the passenger seat of a parked vehicle in the north side traffic lane of the circle on Thursday morning around 1:50 a.m. The deputy recognized him as being wanted in connection with the burglary that took place on July 4 at a residence located at 70 Roberts Lane in Newton Grove, reports show.
In the robbery, the victim reported that she heard her front door knob shaking around 2:30 a.m. Teachey allegedly entered the home and took a flat screen television with him as he left the residence. Warrants were issued for his arrest in connection with the incident earlier this week.
He was arrested without incident.
Teachey was taken to the Sampson County Detention Center, charged and given a $25,000 secured bond and a trial date of Aug. 31.
According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, he has previous convictions dating back to September 2004. Those convictions include: misdemeanor breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods (September 2004); three counts of obtaining property under a false pretenses (December 2004); felony breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods (February 2005); possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (March 2008); possession of stolen goods (April 2008); and assault with intent to inflict serious injury (January 2010).
