A 26-year-old Clinton man has been jailed under $200,000 bond, charged with burglary and attempted second degree sexual offense. Both charges stem from an Aug. 17 incident on Larkins Street, where a man is alleged to have broken into a home and tried to touch a woman there in what has been termed an inappropriate manner.
Robert Antonio Parker, 706 Williams St., was to be transferred from the Johnston County Detention Center, where he had been taken after his arrest, to Sampson County to face the local charges.
Clinton police Detective A. Clowney is being credited for linking the suspect to the crimes after diligent investigative work. Clowney pieced the case together after gathering information from the resident and following up on leads, all which eventually led to Parker being linked to the incident.
A N.C. Highway Patrol trooper stopped Parker on an unrelated matter and discovered that he was wanted in the Sampson crime. He was immediately taken into custody and jailed in Johnston. It is not known what the trooper initially pulled the suspect over for this week.
Parker is charged with breaking into the Larkins Street home around 4:30 a.m. The resident of the home was in the bed and the suspect is accused of attempting to touch her as she slept.
“What happened was she was sleeping and she woke up with the suspect over her,” explained Clinton Police Detective Donald Edwards just after the incident occurred. “She startled him and he ran off.”
Although the victim was shaken up, she did not need to seek medical assistance after the incident.
Parker has a history of convictions, including possession of firearm by felon, resisting an officer, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, assault on an officer, possession with intent to sell Schedule IV substance, possession with intent to sell a Schedule II controlled substance and possession of a Schedule II substance.
