
Coharie People elect chief
Gene K. Jacobs was elected chief of the Coharie People on Saturday, Aug. 26. The term is for three years. Jacobs is a disabled veteran who served in the U.S. Army and was wounded in the Vietnam War. He is a retired USDA employee and is a member of the Coharie Tribe. Jacobs resides in the Kitty Fork area with his wife of 45 years, Charlene. They have four children and have four grandchildren with two grand-dogs. As chief, Jacobs responsibilities and duties are to provide leadership, guidance and direction to the Tribal leaders and the Tribe. (Courtesy photo)
