A ground attack by the Harrells Christian Crusaders proved far more powerful than the visiting Cannon Cougars game from the air, with the home team blowing by the visitors 56-14.

The Crusaders got on the scoreboard first at the 8:06 mark when Russell Washington rushed 15 yards for the TD. Walton Fisher made the point after and the Crusaders were up 7-0.

Washington carried it in again at the 1:21 mark in the first quarter, this time from 12 yards out and again the PAT was good and Harrells was on a roll at 14-0.

The second quarter appeared to be another Harrells rout in the making when, at 10:05, Channing Kelly rushed from 60 yards out for the Crusaders third TD of the game. Fisher, right on the mark, put another through the uprights.

Kelly got his second TD about five minutes later when he plowed in from the 3-yard line and Fisher seals the PAT, putting the Crusaders up 28-0.

But Cannon didn’t give up, and with only 26 ticks left until the half’s end, Myles Martino made it into the end zone for the visitor’s first TD of the night. Blake Brewer made the Cougar extra point and Harrells went into the locker room with a 28-7 lead.

It was more of the same when the second half opened, with the Crusaders seemingly unstoppable as they moved the ball down field and into the end zonetime after time.

At 9:00 in the third, Washington ran in another touchdown from 24 yards out and Fisher put up the extra point.

Washington found the end zone yet again at the 7-minute mark, this time running it in from 4 yards out. Again the PAT was good.

About a minute later, a Cougar pass was intercepted by Crusader Kelly Nelms who ran it in for the TD. Fisher, perfect all evening, put another up.

The Cougars scored again at the 11-minute mark in the fourth period when Grier rushed in from 6 yards out.

Harrells added the exclamation point with three minutes left in the game, when Austin Wells got the final touchdown of the evening, rushing it from 4 yards out. Again Fisher was on target, and the final had Harrells ahead 56-14.

Individually for the Crusaders, quarterback O.H. Rouse was 1-4. Rushing yards: Kelly carried 13 times for 185 yards; Washington had 20 carries for 228 yards; Justin Armwood had 4 carries for 122 yards; Nelms had 4 carries for 15 yards; and Wells had 4 carries for 21 yards.

Fisher was perfect with 8 PATs.

On the defense, Frederick Strickland had 9 tackles; Patrick Walker, 8 tackles; Rouse, 6; Kelly, 5; Rooks Wells, 4; and Nelms 4.
