It was all North Duplin in Friday night’s matchup between the Rebels and the Hobbton Wildcats. North Duplin won 42-7 score.
The Rebels scored early and often on the Wildcats. They recovered the “on-side” kick of the opening kick-off and turned that into a score. They scored pretty much at will until late in the game when the Rebel coaching staff put the young guys in for some experience.
Julio Mora scored the first of three touchdowns with 8:40 left in the first quarter on an 8-yard run. Antonio Jaimes kicked the point after.
The Wildcats could not move the ball and most of the rest of the first quarter was a defensive battle. The Rebels scored again early in the second quarter on a 30-yard scamper by Tyler Royal. Jaimes extra point made it 14-0 at that point.
With 2:55 left in the half, Mora scored again on a 3-yard run following a 70-yard drive. Jaimes made it 21-0 with the extra point.
The Rebels would pull off the “on-side” kick again just before the half and scored on a 43-yard drive and a 4-yard run by Mora. The point after kick would give the Rebels a 28-0 lead at the half.
Royal would take the second half kick-off back 91 yards for another Rebel score just seconds into the third quarter. With the point after kick, North Duplin held a 35-0 lead.
The Rebels would score one final time on a 31-yard pass play from Royal to Blake Rhodes.
The Wildcats would finally get on the scoreboard with 11 seconds left in the third quarter. Rashad Davis scored on a 1-yard run after Charles Chestnutt zipped off a 35-yard scamper to the 1-yard line before being stopped. The score was 42-7 at that point with Eli Escalar’s point after kick.
Hobbton head coach Jeff Byrd, said, “We just quit. They came out with the “on-side” kick and we knew they would do that. We just laid our head down. We didn’t stop them all night. Offensively, they just dominated us up front. They are a well coached team and they get where they are supposed to be.”
The Wildcats will begin conference play Friday at Pender. Game time is 7:30.
