Midway’s Raiders put another match in their win column Monday afternoon, this one a conference victory over Trask. Final score 3-1.

Coach Allan McLamb said the Raiders came out playing well, but went flat before the half. “They started out playing strong, but then they died down a little. They were sluggish, not as on fire as I know they can be.”

Their first goal came about 10 minutes into the first half when Faustino Espino, with an assist from Jimmy Blackmon, hit the net strong.

The Titans answered, knotting the score at 1 just before the half.

“We just slowed down before the half. I’m not sure what happened, but they backed away a little bit and that gave Trask the opportunity to score.”

But Midway came back after the break determined, and the team McLamb said he knew they could be showed up on the field.

“They played good soccer in that second half, like I know they can play,” the Raider coach stressed.

About five minutes into the second period, Javiero Castro struck pay dirt, again off an assist by Blackmon. And 10 minutes later Blackmon scored on of his own.

The win moves the Raider record to 3-1-1, and 1-0 in conference play.

Midway will take on the Wallace-Rose Hill Bulldogs, now 9-0, Wednesday in Raider country. Game time is 5 p.m.

Wallace defeated the Lakewood Leopards Monday 4-0.

“We’ll need to be ready for them,” McLamb said. “We’ve got to play them tough.”
