See You at the Pole™ rally hopes to inspire students

See You at the Pole™ is a student-leader, student-oriented event where students from middle and high schools around the world gather to lift up their classmates, teachers, administrators and others to God through prayer.  The event usually occurs prior to the opening of school around the flag pole.

See You at the Pole™ is a global event that is observed locally at most of our high school and middle schools across the county. In order to get young people inspired to participate and ensure the event is successful, the Eastern Baptist Association is holding its annual See You at the Pole™ rally days prior to the event.

The rally will be held at Kenansville Baptist Church on Sunday, Sept. 23, and will start at 6 p.m. See You at the Pole™ will be on local high school and middle school campuses around the flag pole on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at the time agreed on by students and administration.

Several of the schools in the area have their rallies planned and noted that their events would all take place on Wednesday, Sept. 26. Clinton High, Lakewood, Union High, Midway Middle, Union Middle shared that their events would begin at 7 a.m. Roseboro-Salemburg Middle reported their rally would start at 7:15 a.m. The other schools were either unavailable or did not respond.

The churches in the Eastern Baptist Association use the rally to encourage Christian students to take a stand for their faith at their schools,” shared Andy Beard, youth minister at Corinth Baptist Church in Rose Hill. “See You at the Pole™ is a student-led event on their campus. The rally is a way for church and adults to support our students,” added Beard.

This year the Fellowship of Christian Athletes director of UNC-Wilmington, Matt Treppel, will be speaking. He will be sharing how students can use this school year to honor God by being a image of Jesus that is sitting right there in the same classroom.

“Parents and church member can support See You at the Pole™ by encouraging their students and providing a ride some school meet for prayer before the buses arrive,” remarked Beard.

The 2012 See You at the Pole™ theme is Awaken and the scripture is Ephesians 3:14–21, “For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father… I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being so that Christ may dwell in your hearts…And I pray that you… grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and…that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…’”

This theme passage of Paul’s prayer for his friends in Ephesus is one of the most famous prayers in the Bible. He desires so deeply for them to be able to grasp the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. He yearns for his friends to awaken in a fresh way to the endless possibilities of what only God can do! He is passionate in his cry for awakening in their inner beings like they’ve never experienced. This is why the leaders of See You at the Pole™ chose this theme.

“Pray for an unusual outpouring of the Spirit of God to awaken the hearts of students on campuses throughout your community… and the world,” stated Beard.

See You at the Pole™ as defined by their website, is simply a prayer rally where students meet at the school flagpole before school to lift up their friends, families, teachers, school, and nation to God. The event is a student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led event.

“One of the amazing aspects of See You at the Pole™ is the spiritual harvest that continues on. After students rally together at their flagpole in September, Bible clubs, prayer groups, and evangelism takes place all year long. Many churches work together to sponsor before and after the Pole rallies for students,” explained Beard.

Whether a single student standing alone, two or three huddled together in unity, or hundreds gathered in front of the school, See You at the Pole™ is about students praying for awakening on campuses all over the world.
