Under bright lights and dark clouds, the Clinton Dark Horses trampled the Richland Wildcats Friday. Final score 58-14.

Not hesitating to run the ball, the Wildcats would score a touchdown only minutes into the game. But the Horses refused to let this quick start take them down, and Clinton scored not one, but two touchdowns in the first quarter, raising the score to 14-8, with the Horses in control.

With rain falling, the Horses would end the first quarter with high hopes of a win.

Deciding to take the kick, the Horses would put another TD on the scoreboard, moving the score to 17- 8, with 8:47 minutes left in the second quarter. Tearing down the field, Silas Herring would rip through the Wildcat defense, scoring yet another touchdown for the Horses. With 6:41 minutes left on the clock, Clinton would then continue to shine. Showing off their skills, Clinton recovered a major fumble.

Silas Herring, #24, would crash through Richlands once again, making it 31-8. The Wildcats would continue to battle the Horses, fighting with all they had to get back into the end zone, but Clinton proved to strong, offensively and defensively.

With his third touchdown of the night, Herring would prove to be unstoppable with the help of his teammates. The Horses were up 38-8 in the third.

Herring was not the only star of the night, however. Demontio Bryant also found his way into Wildcat territory and into the end zone. The Horses ended the first half of the game with a 44-8 lead.

The third quarter would consist of nothing but continuous tackling and hitting. Keeping their game up, Clinton would begin the fourth quarter smelling a big win.

The Dark Horses would light up the scoreboard yet again in the final period with another touchdown, this one provided by Spencer Jacobs. With Justin Parker’s high kick, the Horses would gallop their way to a 51-8 lead.

With 8:50 minutes left on the clock, Richlands had an incomplete pass and a yellow flag, disappointing their fans even more. But the visitors finally put another TD on the scoreboard.

But the Horses weren’t through either, as Spencer Jacobs got Clinton’s final TD of the night, with the final 58-14.

Statistically, on rushing, Tykearion Stevens had 19 carries for 125 yards; Silas Herring had 13 carries for 88 yards; and Demontio Bryant, 11 carries for 86 yards. In passing, Greg Smith was 1 for 2 with 15 yards.

On defense, Owen Hunt would have 7 tackles, Michael Graham with 3 tackles, Blake Ellis, Kenneth Ford, Kevin West, Zack Underwood, and Aaron Visor each would have 2 tackles in total.

The Dark Horses will host the Croatan Cougars on Sept. 21. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
