Two people have been arrested on felony drug charges by Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, one man from a previous drug investigation and another as a result of a routine traffic stop.

James Allen Melvin, 28, of 2965 White Woods Road, Salemburg, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, manufacturing marijuana and maintaining a vehicle for the storage of a controlled substance.

Melvin was stopped by deputies as he drove on West Pine Street in Salemburg at approximately 10 p.m. Friday. Melvin was subsequently found in possession of 26.3 grams of marijuana, according to reports.

He was placed under $15,000 unsecured bond and released, reports state.

In the other arrest, a Johnston County man was served local warrants stemming from a prior incident.

The man, John Hyatt, 21, of 9104 N.C. 50 South, Benson, has been charged with selling marijuana, delivering marijuana, manufacturing marijuana and maintaining a place for the storage of a controlled substance.

Hyatt was entered as wanted on the felony drug charges on Dec. 9, according to reports.

Hyatt was taken into custody by law enforcement authorities at Mack’s General Merchandise in Johnston County over the weekend. He was arrested during the early morning Saturday and picked up by Sampson sheriff’s authorities and transported back to this county.

He has been placed under $30,000 secured bond.
