On Saturday Sept. 8, Sampson County Parks and Recreation hosted the 2012 Local Punt, Pass and Kick competition. The event was held at Sampson Community College, with registration beginning at 9 a.m. In spite of the damp weather, the event was a great success, county rec officials noted.
Participants from Sampson and neighboring counties showed up excited to show their punting, passing, and kicking skills. And they left no one disappointed! This year’s winners were:
GIRLS: Bailey Spell (8/9 yr old) and Sarah Suggs (10/11 yr old).
BOYS: Zane Melton (6/7 yr old), Peyton Ellis (8/9 yr old), Carson Ellis (10/11 yr old), Dawson Miller 12/13 yr old), and Gavin Herring (14/51 yr old). The winners will advance to the Sectional Competition and compete against kids from all over Eastern North Carolina.
The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick (PPK) program is a national skills competition for boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 15 to compete separately against their peers. Established in 1961, the PPK program is the oldest NFL Youth Football program. Girls and boys in five separate age divisions (6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, and 14-15) compete against each other in punting, passing and place kicking in a fun and engaging forum. The PPK program is free – both to organizers who host a local competition and to every youngster who wants to participate! With more than three million boys and girls from around the country taking part in PPK competitions every year from July through January, it is one of the world’s largest youth sports participation programs.
