Midway’s defense played its best game of the season Wednesday, holding Pender scoreless on the Patriot’s home turf. Final score 6-0.

“I can’t say enough about how well they played tonight,” coach Allan McLamb said about his Raider defenders. “That back nine did exactly what they needed to do, and we held them.”

The coach was just as pleased with his offense. “They mixed the ball up real well. They are just playing good soccer.

“I changed things up a little bit, moved some positions around to make things a little different and it allowed us to see the ball better. I think it made a difference.”

Midway scored 3 goals in the first and another 3 in the second.

Jonathan Garcia scored the first two goals, and Matt McLamb hit the back of the net for the third goal of the first half.

The Raiders came back for the second period just as fired up, with Garcia getting another goal off an assist by Trey Marowski. Alex Boggs hit pay dirt later in the game and the final goal was scored by McLamb, this time off an assist from E.J. Butler.

Midway’s record moves to 6-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference. They host James Kenan’s Tigers Monday in a 6 p.m. game.
