A pump house was damaged after an unknown suspect allegedly set fire to it, causing $1,000 in damage, and investigators are searching for the culprit. The incident occurred Friday afternoon in a field just south of Clinton.
The report came from a neighbor who witnessed the pump house, located in a field behind a barn at the end of Moore Road, in flames and called for assistance around 5 p.m. Sept. 21.
Although the man did not see any suspects, the fire was determined to be deliberately set.
Investigators talked with the 73-year-old landowner, who wasn’t at home at the time of the incident, but he could not identify any suspects or anyone who would want to set fire to the structure.
No injuries were reported.
Officials said Monday morning that the investigation is ongoing and information about any possible suspects is needed to help close the case.
