Hobbton Middle got a huge victory on the gridiron Wednesday afternoon in what assistant coach Jackson Temple called a battle in the trenches between the Wildcats and the middle school Raiders.

“We are thrilled with this win,” Temple stressed after the game. “It was a hard-fought game by both teams, a really defensive effort from start to finish. It was really a great big slug fest.”

Temple praised the play of both Hobbton and Midway, saying both teams dug in and worked hard to keep their opponents from scoring.

Hobbton got the first touchdown of the day on a 60-yard pass play from quarterback Gage Herring to Caeleb Robinson in the first quarter. With 6 points on the scoreboard, Raekwon Bryant ran in a 2-point conversion and the ‘Cats were up 8-0.

The score remained that way through the half and the entire third period, with the defense from both teams digging in and holding their opponents to downs, with Midway scoreless until the final period.

The middle Raiders went into the end zone near the very end of the game, putting 6 on the board, but the ‘Cats were able to stop the Midway 2-point conversion to get the win.

“This was a tremendous effort by both teams,” Temple said. “Midway played great defense, they really did. And our guys played great on defense too.”

Leading tacklers for Hobbton were Bryant, Robinson, Omar Farrior and Asherae Smith.

Midways stats were not called in by press time.
