MOUNT OLIVE – Twenty-five-year-old Michelle Cobb is a 2010 graduate of Mount Olive College, where she majored in mathematics with a minor in biology. An Honors student, Cobb also participated in numerous activities on campus including choir, varsity cheerleading, Tri Beta, the Henderson Science Club and Math Club. As a Princeton native, Michelle enjoyed the small campus and friendly atmosphere Mount Olive College provided. “It allowed for more personal relationships with teachers and advisors. My professors set high goals for me, leading to greater accomplishments than I would have imagined for myself,” she explained.

Those greater accomplishments include Cobb graduating from an accelerated nursing program at Duke University in May 2012. “I chose Duke because it had a 16-month program for individuals who already had a bachelor’s degree. The Duke School of Nursing is rated among the top ten nursing schools in the nation. Had it not been for my advisor at MOC, I would not have believed I could get into the nursing program at Duke.”

The four years Cobb spent at Mount Olive College gave her the confidence and tools she needed to realize her potential. “Mount Olive College helped me grow from a girl who had no idea what she wanted to do, to knowing and understanding who I wanted to be. I developed and strengthened my skills in leadership, organization, time management, and critical thinking, just to name a few. These skills have helped to ease the transition from new graduate to professional nurse.”

Cobb’s college journey hasn’t ended yet. She plans on becoming a certified nurse midwife in the near future. In the meantime, Cobb works in the Duke Birthing Center, where she takes care of mothers and newborns after deliveries. “Mount Olive College allowed me to develop skills that are essential in the nursing field. For individuals who want to enter a field of health care requiring a graduate degree, I believe MOC is a great place to begin their studies and would prepare them to enter into a professional program.”

Mount Olive College is a private institution rooted in the liberal arts tradition with defining Christian values. The college, sponsored by the Convention of Original Free Will Baptists, has locations in Mount Olive, New Bern, Wilmington, Goldsboro, Research Triangle Park, Washington and Jacksonville.
