Midway boys overcome heat and humidity to claim another cross country meet

The Midway Raiders boys cross country team visited Rosewood High School for a meet Wednesday and continued to dominate the Carolina Conference. Once again they had to run in stifling heat and humidity. The Rosewood Lady Eagles won a very close girls’ meet.

Teammates Caleb Sanders and Michael McLamb both finished in 18:55 to claim the top two spots. Allen Coor of Spring Creek took 3rd with a time of 19:01. Victor Prezbindowski posted a time of 19:10 for 4th place. Quinn Dougherty of Princeton finished 5th with a tally of 19:23.

The remainder of Midway’s scoring team included Dalton Butler, 9th, Heath Smith 11th, and Ritchell Causar 13th. Their finishing times were 20:10, 20:20, and 20:43 respectively.

The Midway team score was 35. Princeton finished 2nd with 40 points, followed by Rosewood with 42. Goldsboro and North Duplin were 4th and 5th.

In the girls’ race, the host Rosewood team eked out a 1 point win over Princeton 35-36.

Rosewood’s Charleigh Smith posted 24:40 to take first place. Abigail Rubio of Princeton finished 2nd , 25 seconds behind. She was followed by Ashley Durn of Rosewood, and Gracin Collins of Goldsboro. Princeton’s Althea Balegeo claimed 5th.

Midway’s Kimberly O’Brien was the Lady Raider’s top runner. She finished 15th with a time 28:57. Maddie Pope was close behind with a 29:02.

The teams will meet next Wednesday at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park where Spring Creek High School will be the host.
