FAYETTEVILLE — Mrs. Willie Lucas Smith, 96 of 350 Shasta St., formerly of Roseboro and the Piney Green Community, died on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 at Highland House of Fayetteville.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Butler Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Keith Carter officiating. Burial will follow at the Lucas Cemetery in Roseboro.

Mrs. Smith was born on April 3, 1916 in Sampson County to the late Archie L. and Adeline Autry Lucas. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph L. Smith; and a son-in-law, Estel “Shug” Royal Jr. She was a member of Piney Green Baptist Church and was a seamstress.

She is survived by one son, Kenneth R. Smith and wife, Thelma of Fayetteville; two daughters, Joe Ann Royal of Roseboro and Faye Volin and husband, Peter of Cary; seven grandchildren; and eight great granddaughters.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday afternoon from 2 to 3 p.m. at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro and other times at the home of her daughter, Joe Ann, 206 Royal Road, Roseboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Piney Green Baptist Church, 6040 High House Road, Salemburg, NC 28385.
