Traffic stop leads to multiple charges

A Clinton woman stopped for speeding early Sunday morning got more than a citation after the officer smelled what he believed to be alcohol and marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Terria Dashelle Washington, 26, 420-C Royal Lane, was charged with driving while license revoked, possession of an open container, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance, speeding 48 in a 35 mph zone and driving left of center.

Police reports show the officer stopped the Explorer Washington was driving along Southeast Boulevard in Clinton around 3 a.m. The stop was made because the vehicle was reportedly traveling at a rate of speed above the posted limit and the driver was traveling across the center line.

When Washington was stopped, reports note, the officer detected the odor of alcohol and marijuana.

Washington was taken into custody, charged and placed under a $3,000 bond. Her trial date was set for Nov. 2.
