The Hobbton Middle School volleyball team improved their record to 4-1 Tuesday after a thrilling five set victory over Midway Middle.

“This was a huge win for us,” said Hobbton coach Chip Pollock. “Midway handed us our only loss of the season so we really wanted some redemption, and fortunately, we came out on top.”

The Wildcats took the first two sets 25-20 and 25-23 before dropping the next two 25-11 and 25-16 to the Raiders.

“Sarah Daughtry really set the tone for us in the first set by giving us 8 straight service points. She gave us a lead that Midway wasn’t able to overcome,” Pollock noted. “Were it not for that boost, the outcome would likely have been very different.”

Hobbton finally prevailed 15-6 in the deciding fifth set.

“This was a very hard fought victory. Tracy Wrench is an outstanding coach. She has her girls extremely ready every time they step on the court,” Pollock said. “It took a total team effort to come out of their gym with a win. I commend our captains for keeping the girls focused.”

The Wildcats were led by Madison Warren, Maddy Roesch, Megan Parker, Alona Rhodes, and Caitlyn Stegal.

Both teams return to action on Thursday as Hobbton hosts Sampson and Midway takes on Roseboro-Salemburg.
