Are you looking to have a little fun, get out of the house and forget about the up one day, down the next temperatures we’re still having even though we’re now into October?

If so, then head to downtown Clinton Saturday for a day choked full of fun and food.

Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, downtown Clinton will take on a fair-like atmosphere, complete with dozens of booths filled with arts and crafts, clothing, paintings, floral designs, and the aroma of good ole’ eastern North Carolina barbecue.

It’s destined to be a great day, and you’ll want to be there.

Clinton officials and downtown merchants have worked very hard to make this day special for all those who’ll just take the time to come to downtown Clinton and sample what’s going on around the courthouse square and at the City Market.

We should go.

It’s a good way to show support for downtown merchants and those who will have booths at the festival; and it’s a perfect way to spend a fall day, with promised good weather for the entire day.

The Court Square Street Fair and Barbecue Cookoff has become an annual event, a way to put Clinton’s name on the map and bring visitors to our fair city from across the state, much like other festivals in small and large towns do each year.

Saturday’s festival should do the same for Clinton, but in order for it to work, those in Clinton and Sampson County need to support the activities first.

What will be happening in downtown Clinton Saturday will be fun, it’ll be informative and it’ll be tasty as corporate teams and individuals fire up cookers and prepare some of the best tasting barbecue you’ll ever hope to sample.

The festival has grown every year now, showing its popularity, with this year including the Ol’ Lightning Rods antique car show, an arts and crafts demonstration day at the History Museum and newly added Care Fair at the Center for Heath and Wellness, which starts at 9 a.m. and the Downtown Dash and Fun Run, a 5K, which also kicks off at 9 a.m.

Also kicking off the day will be the also now annual Breast Cancer Rally that begins at the courthouse. It, too, is well worth your time and deserves the support of this community.

So does the Court Square Festival.

We’ve no doubt all will get that support because we know Sampson County residents and how much they get behind local events. Saturday’s day-long activities should draw a crowd.

The barbecue cookoff is enough to whet any Sampsonian’s appetite, but when you throw in all the other events, we’re sure it’s the kind of day any family would want to share.

So make your plans today, come to downtown Clinton Saturday, and enjoy what those involved have to offer.

The festival will take place from 10 until 4 p.m.; the rally,Care Fair and dash begin at 9. It’ll be fun and it’ll be a great way to support our city. So come on out; we think you’ll be glad you did.
