A Clinton man led police on a late night chase Friday that reached speeds up to 80 mph through residential neighborhoods, ending in a crash that broke a light pole in half.

According to reports by the Clinton Police Department, Brandon Terrell Faison, 20, of 411 Weeks St., Clinton, blew through the intersection of Chestnutt and Fayetteville streets Friday night around 9:30 p.m. Officer J. Simmons happened to be partolling the area when Faison went through at “an estimated 70 mph” in his 1999 Black Oldsmobile Alero.

Once Simmons took chase, Faison kept increasing his speed. Reportedly failing to stop for Simmons’ blue light and sirens, Faison made a sharp turn onto Wall Street and then a quick right onto West Main Street at an estimated 75 mph.

Reports state that Faison then ran through two stop signs and headed towards Spivey Street at 80 mph.

As Simmons started catching up to the Oldsmobile, Faison ran off the side of the road and struck a light pole, cutting it in half, and flipped his car. The car came to rest on its roof in the middle of Spivey Street.

Faison then crawled out of the vehicle and was taken into custody.

He was charged with felony speeding to elude, failure to heed blue lights and sirens, reckless driving and two stop sign violations.

He was placed in custody under a $5,000 secured bond and will have a trial date of March 20. It was not exactly clear why Faison chose to run in the first place.
