CHARLOTTE – Clinton High School officials recently announced the appointment of students Mikiela Ashley, Tiara Carroll and Michael Huff to the March of Dimes North Carolina Youth Council for the 2012-13 school year.
The NC Youth Council is comprised of select students who are committed to promoting, supporting and implementing youth leadership development initiatives for the March of Dimes organization. These students were carefully screened and selected for their commitment to bringing the March of Dimes mission to students and faculty on their local campuses. A total of 46 students were appointed to this year’s council, representing various counties throughout North Carolina.
The purpose of the NC Youth Council is to assist the March of Dimes in the design and implementation of programs targeted to the youth population, including “March for Babies” and “Prematurity Awareness Month,” a national initiative which takes place in November of each year. Youth Council members work closely with other volunteers and professional staff at the March of Dimes chapter, regional and North Carolina offices to provide leadership and assistance in these programs. In addition, Council members will be involved with North Carolina service partners, advocacy and health education initiatives.
The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and infant health. With chapters nationwide and its premier event, March for Babies®, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
