The Midway Raiders JV football team picked up their sixth win of the season Thursday night with a solid 50-16 victory over the visiting Union Spartans.
Midway took a comfortable 22-0 lead into the half and never looked back.
“I can tell you, I was really pleased with the guys tonight,” said Raider coach Jason Fussell. “We have a lot of young kids out here and they have played really well over the last few weeks.”
Fussell pointed out in their last two games (against Wallace and James Kenan, respectively) his team has shown up and ready to play.
“The guys have been working hard,” he said. “We lost to James Kenan last week 28-20 and we were still in it. That is a good sign. It shows you that they are improving and wanting to play and tonight, they came out and played a really good game.”
The Raider offense was led by: Terrel McGee, 2 TDs; Larry Blanks, 1 TD; Labi Olanipekun, 2 TDs; Andre Sanky, 1 TD; and Brett Jackson, 1 TD.
When asked who he would like to mention on defense, Fussell says without hesitation. “I want to mention all the guys, because they did a great job holding off Union tonight.”
Those players are: Dillon Lee, Darius Blue; Kendall Byrd, Josh Wise, Paris Smith, Dillon Tyler, Brett Jackson and Matthew Kramer.
Union head coach Josh Rackley did not immediately return a call before press time Thursday night.
With the will Midway (6-3 overall and 3-3 in the conference) will play next week at Hobbton.
