Sampson County Sheriff’s deputies made a routine traffic stop late Monday afternoon that netted three felony charges against a Dunn resident.

Michael Lee Monds, 44, of 1210 West Fayetteville St., Dunn, was arrested after officers pulled his 2000 Dodge Durango over and discovered .7 grams of cocaine in his possession.

According to reports, a check of Monds’ driver’s license showed that he had outstanding warrants in Harnett County.

Before the stop was over, Monds found himself at the end of three felony charges — possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine; manufacturing and maintaining a dwelling (vehicle); as well as the outstanding charges from Harnett County, including possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and manufacturing and possession of marijuana/possession of drug paraphernalia.

Monds was taken to the Sampson County Detention Center and placed under a $50,250 bond. A trial date for Monds was set for March 20.

Traffic check arrest

A traffic check held Monday afternoon led to the arrest of a Clinton man. Deputies arrested Dennis Dewayne Smith, 29, of 235 Clive Jacobs Rd. Clinton, after Smith’s vehicle stopped for the traffic check on Highway 24 near Andrew’s Chapel Road.

Reports show that officers noticed an open alcohol container and marijuana sitting in “plain view.”

Officers confiscated 1.5 grams of marijuana during the stop and Smith was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and manufacturing marijuana — both felonies — and was taken to the Sampson County Detention Center and placed under a $15,000 bond. Smith will have a court date of April 2.
