A 23-year-old Sampson man was jailed Thursday after running from a traffic stop and, when caught, assaulting an officer before being taken into custody.

Jerry Paul McCarty, 1164 N. Ellis Road, Faison was placed under a $35, 000 bond after being charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a controlled substance; possession of precursor chemicals; resisting a public officer; assault on a law enforcement officer; and damage to property, all felonies.

The incident happened just before 7 p.m. Thursday when a vehicle was stopped on Ellis Road at Giddensville Road, near Faison. The three occupants were asked by sheriff’s deputies to vacate the car for a canine search and during that search one of them, later identified as McCarty, ran from the scene and into a nearby soybean field. An officer pursued and when he caught up with the suspect, an altercation occurred.

The deputy was injured and the suspect apprehended.

Sheriff’s reports show methamphetamine was confiscated during the stop, and McCarty was taken to the Detention Center was he was charged and jailed.

The deputy was taken to Sampson Regional Medical Center’s emergency room where he was treated for minor injuries and later released.

Well, Super Trooper Farva, are you fighting with minions again? I do agree with you though. All these inbred, meth head, dope smokers start putting their two-cents worth in when one of their suppliers gets busted. One day the cure for the stupid gene will be discovered.

The facts are pretty straight. Other than the date, the events that took place are 100% true. The meth was found............in his sock. The officer was tripped while attempting to catch the suspect, who also tripped. The officer was injured, and had to continue to fight the suspect all while he was injured. After the officer was injured, he was hit by the suspect's fist and elbow numerous times. Rescue was called out to the scene for both the officer and the suspect. It's not our fault if the suspect doesn't want rescue to treat his poor little scrapes and bruises. We shouldn't be mean to drug dealers should we???? Boo hoo hoo hoo!

Also, it looks as if the suspect was taken care of really well, no bruises, no scrapes, no blood in the picture. The officer on the other hand, had a bruised eye, a scraped up face (from the soybeans), and a dislocated shoulder from the fall........which means he had to restrain your precious friend with only one good arm.

Looks to me like you need to quit covering up for meth heads and let the paper do their job of reporting. He can have his innocent/guilty day in court, but what the paper says happened.......happened.

Get facts straight before you print. Only 3 felonies-2 which are false and the date was Tuesday, Nov 6. Love how papers only print one side of story. Officer was injured when he tripped! Did they take suspect to be checked out at hospital after the officers beat him? NO!! Drugs were found but NOT on suspect. Keep up the"wonderful" reporting.
