Hobbton’s Dana Warwick is safe at second after the North Duplin second baseman dropped the ball. The Lady Wildcats downed the Lady Rebels 9-3 in Wednesday’s game at Hobbton.
HOBBTON — The Lady Wildcats defeated the North Duplin softball team 9-3 in a made-up game from Tuesday on Wednesday. The game was closer than the score indicated but Hobbton held on to win the game.
“This game was much closer than the score shows,” commented Joel Clarke, Wildcat softball coach. “The Rebels have improved since we scrimmaged them two weeks ago. Our bats were consistent all night and we got the key hits when we needed them. Defensively, we made few errors, but we will continue to work to eliminate the. All 15 players contributed to the win tonight and the girls are enjoying playing this year.”
Hobbton’s baseball team also took the win from North Duplin by the score of 15-8 in Tuesday’s postponed game. The Wildcats got their bats warmed up and out scored the Rebels.
“We hit the ball well with all 9 batters getting at least 1 hit. Hitting kept us in the game today due to some fielding errors. Most of those I feel were a result of being off so long due to the weather,” said Wildcat baseball coach Chad Brewer. “Hopefully we will be able to work on cutting out the errors before we begin the conference schedule.”
North Duplin was 11/32 with 8 runs and 2 walks. The Wildcats were 16/32 with a total of 15 runs.
Michael Skinner was the winning pitcher for Hobbton going for 4 innings and Adam Raynor pitching for 3 and the save.
