The Clinton Dark Horses traveled to Union Friday night for a game with rival Union. The Dark Horses blitzed the Spartans by a final score of 71-28.
Union began the game nicely, scoring the first 4 points courtesy of Spartans Bakeem Murphey and Dezmond Faison respectively. But then, a 12-0 run by the Dark Horses opened the floodgates, and their lead was like a snow ball rolling downhill the rest of the way.
Clinton’s shooting ability and defensive pressure made it tough for the Spartans to do anything. Union had to work hard to get open shots, and when they did, they missed them.
The Dark Horses rode a 31-15 lead into the locker room for halftime, then quickly put the game out of reach by making smart decisions early in the second half. Wil Pearson provided a spark off the bench for Clinton, and he led the Dark Horses in scoring with 11 points, including 2-2 from 3-point range.
Union was led in scoring by Natrone Banks who had 8 points, all of them coming after the intermission.
Coach Tim Pope of Union was not at all pleased with his team’s play. “We just couldn’t make a shot. And give a lot of credit to Clinton, they were well coached, and better than us in every facet of the game.”
Clinton’s coach couldn’t be reached for comment.
Union hosts East Bladen this coming Tuesday. The Spartans lost the first meeting between the two last week.
